South African batsman Hashim Amla retires from professional cricket

South Africa’s star batter Hashim Amla has announced his retirement from professional cricket on Wednesday. The Surrey Cricket Club, announced the cricketer’s retirement on their Twitter account.

Alec Stewart, the director of the Surrey Cricket club thanked the player for his contributions to the club called the batsman ‘a fantastic cricketer and a wonderful’.

Hashim Amla’s fellow batsman AB de Villiers also took to and paid a tribute to him stating ‘you served the game to perfection’. Ab de Villiers has retired from all formats of cricket in 2021.

Hashim Amla had 20 years long career in which he played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is and scored 34,104 runs across all formats. In ODI cricket, Amla holds the record of scoring the fastest 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 6,000 and 7,000 runs.

He made many records in his career which includes a triple century (311) against England at the Oval.

Hashim Amla had retired from the International Cricket after the 2019 World Cup and now has ended his association with the Surrey Cricket club which he has joined after his retirement.

Amla will now continue his stint as the MI Cape Town’s batting coach and there are speculations that he might be hired as the batting coach of the South Africa cricket team.
