Top Congress leader attacked, injured in India

Kolkata: Top Congress leader Mamata Banerjee was allegedly attacked in Nandigram hours after she filed her nomination papers on Wednesday.

The Trinamool Congress supremo was rushed to Kolkata’s SSKM hospital where her nephew Abhishek Banerjee was also present, India.com reported.

Mamata, while speaking to the media said, “There were four-five men who did it.”

Pointing to her leg, she added, “See how it is swelling up”. Asked if it was a planned attack, she said, “Of course it is a conspiracy… there were no security men around me”.

“Not even one Police official was present. 4-5 people intentionally manhandled me in presence of the public. No local police present during the program, not even SP. It was definitely a conspiracy. There were no police officials for 4-5 hours in such huge public gathering,” the WB CM further added.

Earlier, Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination paper from Nandigram and was scheduled to stay in the district tonight. However, after the incident, Mamata left for Kolkata from Nandigram for treatment.
