LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer Umar Sheikh once again made headlines when it emerged that he had reportedly abused a sub-inspector of the Punjab Police who had sought education in the US, media reports claimed on Thursday.
The sub-inspector — Fahad Iftikhar Virk — resigned following the abuse and submitted a two-line resignation letter, stated The News. Virk said that Sheikh referred to him as the “son of a donkey” during the meeting, adding that he felt insulted and had immediately resigned.
Virk said he was in charge of the media monitoring cell and was briefing Sheikh and other officers on a matter related to his portfolio.
“The CCPO asked me a question that I answered. While I was replying, he interrupted and dubbed me a ‘son of a donkey,’ saying that he was asking me something but was getting an answer to something else,” Virk told the newspaper.
Virk said that he had been working on the web pages of the Lahore CCPO and other senior police officers of Lahore police. He said that his efforts had been lauded in the past by senior police officers.
Virk said that he completed his M Phil in environmental chemistry from the United States in 2015. He said serving in the police had always been his passion and that is why he appeared in the competitive examination of the Punjab Public Service Commission and was placed at number 10 on the merit list.
He said he resigned because he felt his dignity was severely attacked.
“I was asked to get out of the meeting, which I had to do, but later wrote out my resignation to the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Lahore,” said Virk.
