32 arrested for spreading hateful propaganda on social media: Fawad
ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said that 32 activists of a banned outfit have been apprehended for spreading fake news on social media.
The arrests came during a special crackdown on Thursday night.
“In a major operation last night, 32 members of the banned party were arrested. These people were spreading hate propaganda through fake social media accounts. A major action has been initiated against fake news and propaganda.”
Chaudhry said that more arrests will be made soon.
The arrests came as banned Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) was seeking expulsion of the French ambassador from Pakistan, a demand the government has rejected and asked the TLP activists to end their protest and go home.
According to reports, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid was in talks with TLP chief in order to persuade him to call off the long march.
