Imran-Achakzai meeting likely within weeks, claims PML-N leader

A meeting between PTI founder Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai is expected within the next one to two weeks, according to PML-N leader Ikhtiar Wali Khan.

Speaking to a private channel, Ikhtiar Wali Khan said the meeting could take place before Achakzai’s anticipated engagement with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, adding that political matters were earlier moving toward resolution before recent developments shifted the situation.

Commenting on PTI’s nationwide strike call on Sunday, he claimed it failed to gain traction in Sindh and Punjab, while Islamabad and Rawalpindi remained unaffected. He added that business activity largely continued across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He alleged that in some areas, attempts were made to forcibly shut markets, with attacks reported on shops that remained open. In Malakand, he said, residents pushed back against efforts to close markets, leading to clashes with PTI supporters.

He said any dialogue would remain within constitutional limits, ruling out fresh elections, and added that negotiations would proceed under the law.  He also blamed Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Achakzai for recent political developments in Balochistan.

Earlier, Achakzai wrote a letter to the prime minister seeking his “personal intervention” for the medical examination of PTI founder Imran Khan by the jailed leader’s “trusted” doctors.

In the letter shared on X, Achakzai said that it had come to his attention that recent medical check-ups were conducted “without the knowledge or presence of his (Imran’s) personal medical team or family members” and “his personal doctors, who are fully aware of his medical history, were not informed”.

“A full medical examination and tests by his trusted doctors is critically needed without any delay to properly assess and manage his health, in line with medical ethics, legal obligations, and fundamental human rights,” he said.

He said it would be better if Imran’s personal doctors – Dr Muhammad Aasim Yusuf, Dr Prof Mazhar Ishaq, and Dr Prof Aamir Awan – performed the medical examination.
