Asif Ali voted ICC Player of the Month for October
Pakistani right-handed batsman Asif Ali has been voted International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Player of the Month Award for October.
In a statement, the ICC acknowledged Asif Ali’s contributions, especially against Afghanistan and New Zealand, where his hitting cost both sides the match and Pakistan walked away with four points from the two games.
Asif Ali struck a stellar 27 runs off 12 balls in the match against New Zealand and then further, smashed four sixes in a single over against Afghanistan, when Pakistan needed 24 off 12 balls.
ICC Voting Academy member Irfan Pathan said helping Pakistan win, especially from the “jaws of defeat” is what makes Asif Ali special.
“Although he scored considerably less than other two nominated players, the contribution he made and the pressure situations from where he snatched the victories made all the difference,” added Pathan.
As far as the women’s category is concerned, Ireland skipper Laura Delany was voted the Player of the Month.
