Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf laid to rest today

Former army chief and President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf passed away in Dubai on February 5th after a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest in the army graveyard in Karachi after his funeral prayers were offered.

Many famous political personalities such as MQM-P leaders Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi, Dr Farooq Sattar, PSP’s Mustafa Kamal, PML-N leader Amir Muqam and ex federal information minister Javed Jabbar attended the funeral.

Ex-army chiefs, Qamar Javed Bajwa, Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Aslam Beg were also present at the the funeral.

The body of the late ex-army chief arrived in Karachi along with the bereaved family on Monday after a NOC was issued by the consulate general of Pakistan in Dubai.

The 79-year-old military ruler was suffering from a rare disease amyloidosis, a condition caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.

Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf ruled Pakistan from 2000 till 2008 after overthrowing the government of Nawaz Sharif and imposing a political emergency in the country. He left the country in 2016 for his medical treatment and has been residing in UAE ever since.
