Citizens who wash their cars at home will be fined Rs 3,000 while a hefty penalty of Rs 5,000 will be imposed for wrong parking facility.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) made the decision while hearing petitions filed to control smog. During proceedings the court expressed its discontentment on initiating development projects in the Lahore.
Justice Shahid Karim remarked that smog season has started requiring six months preparation prior to its commencement.
He said it not clear why the caretaker government is in a haste to launch the development projects and from where billions of rupees are being collected.
The court slapped a fine of Rs3,000 on individuals washing their vehicles in homes and a fine of Rs5,000 over wrong parking in the city. The court ordered to deposit fine amount with the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
The judge said the water crisis is aggravating in the country and Registrar of the LDA Housing Societies be informed about the court orders, the judge directed.
The Judicial Water Commission suggested the court that fine for those motorcyclists not wearing helmets be increased to Rs 2,000.
Smoke from vehicles, factories and burning of the remains of crops have been major factors behind the dense smog that engulfs cities in the beginning days of the winter resulting in breathing issues and other health problems.
Punjab is adversely affected with such weather conditions in recent years during winters.
