Malaysia urges India to abide by UN resolutions on Kashmir

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Prime Minister expressed his concern about the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and repeated escalation of tensions between Pakistan and India.

Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad received a phone call from Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday during which the PM briefed Dr Mahathir on the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” according to a statement issued on Thursday.

PM Iman Khan, among others, referred to the need to respect the relevant United National Security Council (UNSC) resolutions related to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Malaysia would like to engage all stakeholders to abide by the relevant UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir towards the maintenance of international peace and security.”

“As a close partner to both Pakistan and India, Malaysia places high hopes that the two neighbours will exercise utmost restraint to prevent further escalation that could be detrimental to peace, stability and prosperity in the region,” he said.

He said Malaysia always believes that dialogues and consultations are the best route to a peaceful and amicable solution over this long standing issue.
