On Friday we saw the announcement of PCB chairman Ramiz Raja and Mohammad Wasim led selection committee being removed from their positions. Post this, a 14 member committee was formed by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, which is led by Najam Sethi. The committee has 120 days to appoint a new chairman and the necessary changes to revive the 2014 constitution.  The committee had made their first major decision on Saturday and appointed former Pakistani Skipper, Shahid Afridi as the chief selector of the ongoing Pakistan versus New Zealand series and now we see yet another development.

Former Pakistan coach, Mickey Arthur has been approached by Najam Sethi and his committee to re join the team after the current head coach, Saqlain Mushtaq’s contract finishes in February next year. The ongoing Pakistan and New Zealand series is supposed to be Saqlain Mushtaq’s last coaching assignment. The new committee has decided against renewing the contracts of the Saqlain Mushtaq (head coach) and Shaun Tait (bowling coach).

Mickey Arthur had previously coached the Pakistan Cricket team from 2016 to 2019 and is believed to join the team before the PSL begins.

All of these developments took place after we saw Pakistan was whitewashed by England in their home venues which did not sit well with the fans or the critics. It will be now interesting to see who the committee hires as the new Chairman of the PCB and what other changes do they bring to the table.
