Overload lead singer Farhad Humayun passes away

Renowned Pakistani band Overload’s frontman and lead singer Farhad Humayun passed away on Tuesday morning, according to a statement on the band’s official Facebook page.

The post read, “The magnificent Farhad Humayun left us for the stars this morning. Stoic in the face of challenges, uncompromising in his values, generous to a fault, witty as hell! Fadi was far too ahead of his time, both in spirit and art.” It further read, “He would want us to celebrate his life, so we request his family, friends, and fans to honor him and say a prayer for him today.”

“We can almost hear him say these words by David Bowie: “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring”. Godspeed our gentle giant and thank you for creating a riot!” the post concluded.

Soon after the news broke, several artists took to social media to pay tribute and condolences to the singer and his family.

Former Vocalist of the Overload Band Meesha Shafi also took to social media to announce the death of her former colleague.

His cause of death was not revealed by the band. However, the singer had revealed in 2018 that he was getting surgery done for a brain tumor.

Humayun had formed the band Overload in 2003 after starting his career as an underground musician. He was previously the drummer for two other bands that he formed, Co-Ven and Mindriot.

Humayun has recorded drums and toured with major Pakistani rock acts such as Noori and Fuzon and has served as the house band drummer for Coke Studio 5 in 2012. He has written with and recorded Atif Aslam on his first three albums as well as on Coke Studio.  Farhad produced Meri Kahani by Atif Aslam in 2006. Farhad subsequently became a regular face for big brands like Porsche, Dell, Samsung, Chester Bernard clothing, telecom companies like Mobilink, Warid, and PTCL all of which he has been a brand ambassador for. He featured in the TVC for Samsung Galaxy A.
