Pakistan renews call for political settlement in Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has again reiterated its commitment to play a constructive role in seeking a political solution in Afghanistan.
In a press statement, Pakistan said that it would continue to closely follow the developments in the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan.
“We believe it is imperative that the Afghan leaders work together to address the evolving situation and craft a way forward for sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan,” it said.
“In our view, achieving lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan and bringing an end to the four-decades long conflict is a shared responsibility of the international community.”
“We hope that our collective efforts will help bring lasting peace, progress and prosperity to Afghanistan.”
In a Twitter statement, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said: “Pakistan is very clear on our position: we believe that a negotiated political settlement is the only way forward. We do not wish to see continued cycle of civil war & want the people of Afghanistan to thrive, not simply survive.”
We hope that all Afghan leaders work together in the supreme national interest of the country & Pakistan will continue to play a constructive and facilitative role. The int’l community must remain engaged with Afghanistan. https://t.co/6mhcgIx0Tx
