PM Kakar to visit Kuwait to convey condolences on demise of Emir

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Monday will undertake a one-day visit to Kuwait.

The prime minister will convey to the Royal Family, the government and the people of Kuwait the sympathies and condolences of the Government and people of Pakistan on the sad demise of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Foreign Office Spokesperson said.

PM Kakar has declared Monday, December 18, as a day of mourning in Pakistan as an expression of fraternal solidarity on the sad demise of Emir of Kuwait. The national flag shall fly at half mast throughout the country on the day.

On the other hands, a Senate delegation led by Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani paid a visit to the Kuwait Embassy in Islamabad to convey heartfelt condolences on the passing of the esteemed Emir.

The delegation, comprising Senators Naseebullah Bazai, Mohammad Abdul Qadir, and Danesh Kumar, led by Chairman Senate expressed deep sorrow with the Kuwaiti Ambassador, over the great loss of the Emir of Kuwait, said a news release issued here on Monday.

As a gesture of respect, Sadiq Sanjrani penned poignant condolence remarks in the memorial book dedicated to guests, underscoring the significant loss felt not only by Kuwait’s royal family but also resonating profoundly with the people of Pakistan.

“In the demise of Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, we have lost a true friend and a dynamic leader,” Chairman Senate remarked. “His personal commitment to regional stability, global development, and his role in fostering international harmony will be remembered and cherished for generations to come”.

Sanjrani further conveyed his heartfelt condolences, sharing the grief of Kuwait and its people during this difficult time.  “May Allah grant forgiveness and exalt the late Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah,” he added.

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah died aged 86. Kuwaiti announced the start of a 40-day official mourning period and a three-day closure of government departments.

Kuwait’s crown prince and his half-brother, Sheikh Meshaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, was subsequently named new emir, a statement from Issa Al-Kandari, the deputy prime minister and minister of state for cabinet affairs said.

Sheikh Nawaf was sworn in on September 2020 after the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, in the United States at the age of 91.

Sheikh Nawaf held high office for decades before he took power and had a reputation for modesty and largely maintained a low profile.
