Rishabh Pant to be airlifted to Mumbai for surgery

Indian Wicket-Keeper Batsman Rishabh Pant met with a car accident near his hometown of Roorkee in Uttarakhand a few days back.  He was driving his car and it got crashed when he fell asleep and lost control of the car. The 25 year old managed to escape the car through the window even though his car went up in flames and suffered some major injuries.  He was admitted to a hospital in Uttarkhand and was kept in the Intensive Care Unit.

Now the latest update on the batsman’s recovery is that he will be airlifted from Dehradun to Mumbai for further rehabilitation and recovery. The BCCI in their statement said, “Rishabh will undergo surgery and subsequent procedures for ligament tears and will continue to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team throughout his recovery and rehabilitation,”

They further added, “The Board will make every effort to aid and expedite the recovery process of Rishabh and will provide him with all the support he needs during this period.”

The board has been in constant touch with the doctors at Uttarkhand and upon their recommendations it has been concluded that Pant needs a surgery for one of the tears in his leg.

Upon his return, Pant will be treated by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Head – the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director – Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at Kokilaben Hospital in Andheri, a western suburb in Mumbai.

The accident came to a shock as many of his fellow cricketers. Ishan Kishan, a close friend and team mate of Rishabh Pant said, “When I first heard the news, thought it was a normal accident and people are making a big thing out of it, but when I got to know, I was really scared. We wish him a speedy recovery and wish him all the best.”

No clear indication has been given regarding the return of Rishabh Pant to the cricket as it still too early and he is recuperating however it is hoped that he may be back in form before the start of new of Indian Premier League (IPL) starting in April- May. Rishabh Pant is the captain of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals.
