Earlier today, rumour mills were churning that the former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has resigned from his position of senior vice president at PML-N and will continue his work for the country from the platform Reimagining Pakistan. However, his spokesperson Hafiz Usman Abbasi clarified that there is no truth in the story calling it “baseless rumours”. Hafiz Abbasi said, “He did not quit the party in difficult times, why would he quit now? stressing that even when he was to jail, he still considered Nawaz Sharif as his ‘leader’.

Talking about the platform Reimagining Pakistan, Abbasi had said that this forum is “not for or against any party”.

Now as per the latest development, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s representative Muhammad Zubair confirmed the news of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s resignation being received by the PML-N.

Zubair said, “Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is a senior leader and worker of the PML-N. I believe that by quitting his post as senior VP will not impact his stature at all”.

“He is a very big leader, he has been the prime minister and the party needs him very much.”

Sources had said that there were multiple reasons which led to him taking this decision but the prime reason was the promotion of Maryam Nawaz up the ranks in the party. If rumours are to be believed, Abbasi has made his distaste in the matter evident in front of the PML-N chairman Nawaz Sharif.
