ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari on Saturday broke her silence against the killing of an Ahmadi doctor inside his home in Punjab’s Nankhana Sahib district.
A doctor belonging to the Ahmadi community was shot dead while his father and two uncles were injured when a teenage boy opened fire on them in their home.
The victims were offering prayers on Friday afternoon at their house in Murh Balochan area of Nankana when they heard a knock on the door.
One of the family members, Dr Tahir Mahmood, 31, went to open the door where a teenage boy carrying a pistol opened fire on him.
The doctor succumbed to his wounds in a local hospital.
The suspect was nabbed by area’s residents and handed over to police.
Taking to Twitter, Shireen Mazari wrote: “Condemn targeted attacks & killings of mbrs of minority Ahmedi community in diff parts of Pak. But as govt it’s r responsibility to act. We have. Perpetrator of latest attack in police custody & being proceeded against in accordance with law. Govt’s duty to protect all r citizens.”
Her response came following criticism from netizens that the human rights minister had failed to condemn the growing incidents of violence against Ahmadis.
