Shireen Mazari slams political leaders threatening Aurat March

ISLAMABAD: Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari on Monday spoke out on threats being issued by a political party to planned women rallies.

“Strongly condemn those political ldrs calling on ppl to forcibly stop #AuratMarch. Women like other segments of society have a right to peacefully protest & demand their rights already enshrined in our constitution,” Ms Mazari tweeted.

“Our govt is committed to ensuring an end to discrimination against & harassment of women & has put in place programmes, policies & legislative measures to empower women & girls,” she added.

Her tweet came after Jamiaut Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) urged his followers to disrupt women rallies that are scheduled to be held on March 8 in connection with the International Women’s Day.

Rehman said his party would not allow ‘vulgarity’ and ‘obscenity’ in the name of human rights.

“I want to make it clear that rebelling against the Quran and Sunnah and our culture in the name of human rights is not something we will allow. If anyone thinks they can come on roads under different banners and threaten our culture and Islamic values, they should know that we will also come out to stop them,” he said.
