Temple in Rahim Yar Khan restored after attack
The Hindu temple in Rahim Yar Khan has been restored after the attack last week. The restoration was done by the local administration and will be open to worshippers soon, as said by the members of the Hindu community.
The 20-year old temple was attacked by a mob, who destroyed the interiors as well as the idols which were placed inside, after the attack, the local Hindu community also left the area.
“The Ganesh temple has been restored,” Dharminder Kumar, a journalist, and activist living in the area told Geo News. The idols are yet to be restored and the work will begin from August 15.
Apart from the repairs, a boundary wall has also been constructed for worshippers’ security.
Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan had condemned the attack and asked the general inspector to arrest the culprits. He had also promised to restore the temple.
Till now, 70-100 people who vandalized the temple have been arrested.
More than 40 arrested
More than 40 people were arrested last week for their involvement in an attack on a Hindu temple and blocking the motorway in the city.
According to the police, 38 of the detained persons were presented before an anti-terrorism court in Bahawalpur. Following their appearance in court, the suspects were sent to jail for an identity parade.
