Twitter’s blue tick to end on April 20th

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced the final date of removing the coveted blue ticks from the microblogging platform. He tweeted about this development on Tuesday which led to a frenzy amongst the tweeps.

Last month, it was announced that the blue ticks will be earned via monthly subscription program of $8 worldwide. This did not settle well amongst the subscribers either.  Twitter, at the time, also told users that other checkmark colors and badges would be available for purchase to denote whether an account is a business or a government. The platform will grant a gold checkmark for businesses, and a grey checkmark for government and multilateral accounts.

Many celebrities such as LeBron James and Chrissy Teigen have however refused to pay for the checkmarks.

Before Elon Musk took over Twitter, the blue ticks were used to verify accounts as active, authentic and “notable”. They were also free of cost.
