The United States on Tuesday blacklisted for Malir SSP Rao Anwar for alleged human rights abuse.
The US Treasury Department said that Anwar had staged over 19 fake police encounters in which he killed more than 400 people. The former Malir SSP made headlines last year when he killed Naqeebullah Mehsud and claimed that the former was a terrorist.
However, a subsequent police inquiry later found out that Naqeebullah was innocent and no evidence was found of him being a militant or terrorist.
“The former cop was involved in over 190 police encounters that resulted in the deaths of over 400 people, including the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud,” said the US. “Anwar helped to lead a network of police and criminal thugs that were allegedly responsible for extortion, land grabbing, narcotics, and murder.”
US Treasure Secretary Steve Mnuchin said that the US was the world leader in combating human rights abuse and it will not tolerate torture, kidnapping, sexual violence, murder, or brutality against innocent civilians.
