LAHORE: Prominent human rights activist and veteran journalist IA Rehman has passed away at the age of 90, reported various news outlets on Monday.
His family spoke to media to say the man was a patient of blood and sugar. However, they did not specify his cause of death.
He was a columnist for the Dawn print newspaper and had also worked closely with the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).
Rehman was a distinguished journalist who gave 65 years of his life to the profession. He was the editor of the Urdu-language daily Azad during the East Pakistan crisis.
From 1998-1990, Rehman was working as the editor-in-chief of the Pakistan Times.
He was born on September 1930 in Haryana, British India which is now part of India.
Apart from his journalistic duties, Rehman authored three books, namely Jinnah as a Parliamentarian (co-editor), Arts and Crafts of Pakistan, and Pakistan under Siege.
Rehman worked as director of HRCP for two decades and was also the group’s secretary general till 31 December, 2016.
