NAB arrests former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday in the LNG import case.
According to details, the former prime minister was arrested by a 15-man NAB team from the Thokar Niaz Baig interchange in Lahore. Abbasi was on his way to Islamabad where he was supposed to attend a press conference with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif.
Former federal minister for planning and development Ahsan Iqbal was with Abbasi when the NAB team arrested.
According to a video shared on social media, Abbasi protested at first but then gave in. He was taken from Thokar Niaz Baig interchange to NAB Lahore. Afterwards, the former prime minister was shifted from NAB Lahore to NAB Rawalpindi.
PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz lashed out at NAB for arresting the former prime minister. Maryam tweeted a photo of the photocopy of the arrest orders issued by NAB.


Abbasi is accused of corruption of millions of rupees in an import contract of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). NAB issued arrest orders for Miftah Ismail, the former finance minister and the former Managing Director of the State Bank of Pakistan.
