Hamid Mir ignites controversy on social media after exchange with Maulana Tariq Jameel
Geo News anchor Hamid Mir annoyed a segment on social media after his exchange with Maulana Tariq Jameel on a current affairs programme hosted by Muhammad Malick went viral on Saturday.
On his show, Breaking Point, Malick invited Hamid Mir to speak on comments passed by Maulana Tariq Jameel a few days ago on the Pakistani media.
Jameel’s comments created controversy after he appeared on the Ehsaas Telethon at the end to make dua in light of the coronavirus situation and said that Pakistani channels, like foreign media, told lies.
“This is not just restricted to Pakistani media. Foreign media are also liars,” he had said.
Jameel had also said that once, the owner of a private news channel met him and sought advice. “I told him to eliminate lies from the channel to which he responded by saying that if that were to happen, his channel would be finished but not the lies,” he added.
On Breaking Point, while Jameel continued to apologise for his words, it seemed as if Mir wasn’t ready to let him off the hook. He kept on repeatedly questioning Jameel for meeting Nawaz Sharif when he was prime minister and then also, establishing good relations with Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“I want to tell you, Hamid Mir sahab, that I used to give him advice and nothing else,” said Jameel in response to the question.
Social media was not too please with the way Mir grilled Jameel on national TV.
