Babar Azam named the ICC’s ODI Player of the Year

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has won the award of the ICC ODI Player of the Year for the second time consecutively owing to his spectacular batting performance in the past year. He was earlier awarded with the captain of the ICC ODI team of the year as well.

He many have played only nine ODI matches in the past year however he has scored consistently and his batting form was unparalleled. At the end of the calendar year, the skipper had scored 679 runs with an average of 84.87.

He is now the fourth cricketer to receive this award two times in a row after the likes of M.S Dhoni, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.

ICC released an official statement regarding the same, “There were match-winning knocks, spell-binding stroke-play and memorable moments from a personal perspective and his team in 2022 as Pakistan skipper Babar Azam claimed ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year Award for a second consecutive year.” ICC also recognized Babar Azam as the “ultra-consistent right-hander”.

The news was also shared by the PCB on their twitter handle and they congratulated the 28-year-old Pakistan skipper on his achievement.

Babar Azam will now been in the newest edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) which is slated to begin on February 13 in Multan. He will be leading Peshawar Zalmi.
