Did Prime Minister Imran Khan really say that the military created armed militias?
An excerpt of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s interview with New York Times raised eyebrows on social media.
“We have decided, for the future of our country — forget the outside pressure — we will not allow armed militias to operate anymore,’’ PM Khan told the American newspaper. “The Pakistan Army created them,’’ Khan said, referring to the 1980s when Pakistan and the United States backed insurgents in Afghanistan against Soviet forces.
Some social media users were quick to draw a parallel between Imran Khan’s remarks and Dawn Leaks, but people ignored the fact that Imran Khan was referring to the Afghan war in 1980s when Zia ul Haq was in power.
