ISLAMABAD: Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in Islamabad on Saturday where he was received quite warmly at the Nur Khan Base.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and senior members of the government greeted the Qatari Emir on his arrival. Thani was accorded a warm welcome when a red carpet was rolled out for him and a guard-of-honour was given to him.
Prime Minister Khan himself drove Thani from the airbase to the Prime Minister House. Three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Islamabad and Doha after the Emir arrived.
Delegation-level talks were held among delegates from both countries after Prime Minister Khan and Thani held a one-on-one discussion at the PM House.
The two sides agreed to enhance bilateral relations and cooperate more in various sectors. Three MoUs for cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, tourism and financial intelligence were signed between the two countries.
Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Qatari Finance Minister Ali Shareef Al Emadi signed the MoU for establishment of Pakistan-Qatar joint working group on trade and investment.
Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Dr Fahmida Mirza and Secretary General of Qatar National Tourism Council Akbar Al Baker agreed on cooperation in the fields of tourism and business events.
The third MoU relates to cooperation in the field of exchange of financial intelligence, anti-money laundering and to check terror financing.
Sheikh Thani planted a sapling at the Prime Minister House as dignitaries from both countries looked on. He also gave a jersey to Prime Minister Imran Khan after which the prime minister signed a cricket bat for him.
Foreign ministers of both countries also held discussions on bilateral relations and other matters.
