The left hander batsman has been named the vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team in the upcoming Pakistan versus New Zealand ODI series. He will be taking over the role in the absence of the all-rounder Shadab Khan who is ruled out of the series owing to a finger injury.
The batsman has been in good form has recently made a comeback to the squad. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), via a press release made the announcement of this development. “Shan Masood has been named vice-captain of the men’s side for the three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand because of the unavailability of Shadab Khan, who injured his index finger last week.”
Shadab got injured during the ongoing season of Big Bash League where he plays for the Hobart Hurricanes
The ODI squad was announced by the chief selector, Shahid Afridi on Thursday.
Pakistan’s ODI squad:
Babar Azam (captain), Shan Masood (vice-captain), Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Salman Ali Agha, Shahnawaz Dahani, Tayyab Tahir and Usama Mir
Three uncapped players, Kamran Ghulam, Tayyab Tahir, and Usama Mir have been added to the squad while pacer Haris Rauf makes a comeback after an injury during the Pakistan and England Test series.
The New Zealand ODI squad:
Kane Williamson (capt – only for Pakistan ODIs), Tom Latham Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Henry Shipley, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee Blair Tickner.
Adam Milne who was previously a part of the squad had withdrawn from the series due to lack of preparation.
The three ODI matches will be played on January 9, 11, and 13 at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.
