The Chinese video-making app Tiktok has been banned for the third time in two years in Pakistan. This ban has been temporarily placed till 8th July 2021 after the Sindh High Court placed a ban on the app for spreading immortality and awareness on LGBT rights which were against Islam.

This order was placed after a resident of Pakistan filed a petition to place a ban on the app after he said that people were posting suicide attempt videos to get more views. He further added to temporarily ban the app until the PTA can find a way to censor content.

Earlier on 11th March, the Peshawar High Court had placed a ban on the app for 3 months on the basis of the app spreading vulgarity. The ban was later lifted right after 7 days. The Peshawar High Court had directed the PTA to ensure that viewers from Pakistan do not access unethical and objectionable material in view the provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. Earlier, in October a ban was placed on the app but was lifted after 10 days.
